I find that Dell consumer models tend to be remarkably finicky compared to their small business/Latitude counterparts. There is a utility that you can download from Dell that will check for and then enforce the proper order for driver installs. I forget the name of it right now, but it’s there. Do you have the option to run DELL COMMAND UPDATE? If so, ensure that the machine is not bound to a domain before doing so. May not be the resolution to your issue but something I have come across that prevented updates from running properly.
